Summer Music Academy is more than a camp — it’s a joyful, immersive experience where young artists explore music, creativity, culture, movement, and self-expression in a supportive community.

Led by professional teaching artists, musicians, and mentors, students spend two enriching weeks building confidence, collaboration, leadership, and real performance skills through hands-on workshops in music and the arts.

At the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music, we believe arts education should be accessible, rigorous, and culturally rooted. Summer Music Academy also introduces students to OPC’s larger conservatory community, where they can continue their musical journey year-round through deeper study in instruments and disciplines such as piano, violin, voice, drums, DJ’ing, ensembles, and more.

Featured Summer Workshops

Students rotate through engaging workshops throughout the day, including:

  • Sax, Trumpet

  • Flute, Clarinet

  • DJ’ing & Beatmaking

  • Afro-Peruvian Cajón & Dance

  • Drum kit

  • Violin

  • Banjo

  • Vocal Ensemble

  • Visual arts

Whether your child is picking up an instrument for the first time or continuing their musical journey, Summer Music Academy provides a welcoming and encouraging environment for all experience levels.

Students develop musicianship, discipline, confidence, creativity, and teamwork while learning directly from experienced teaching artists and musicians.

 

Daily Program Hours

Monday–Friday
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Drop-Off Begins: 8:45 AM

Each day is thoughtfully designed to balance structured music instruction, creative exploration, collaboration, outdoor play, mentorship, and reflection.

Students participate in:

  • Creative collaboration and improvisation
