Sam Wilkins

Sam Wilkins is a classically trained violinist from Saginaw, MI, who grew up performing with a family full of musicians. He’s a strong advocate for music education and has been on the founding team of multiple music education programs. Since moving to Oakland three years ago, he’s performed and recorded music with a number of talented artists around the Bay Area. He’s also joined the board of a non-profit called Follow the Music, focused on increasing access and exposure for Bay Area music artists.

A recent MBA graduate and engineer by trade, Sam's focus has been on leveraging technology to create impactful innovations in the music world. In partnership with Kev Choice, he is currently building two new ventures: The first is a tech startup called Choice Scores, focused on creating tools that enable artists and musicians to thrive. The second is a non-profit orchestra called Legacy Symphonic, focused on amplifying black and brown musicians and educating the next generation of black classical musicians and string players.

Sam has spent most of his life as the only black violinist in most rooms, and is honored to join the BBFF community, where he can connect with his ancestry through the instrument he’s played his entire life.
