Afterschool Jazz offers two levels for middle school through high school students.
Level 1:6th to 8th grade
Schedule: Wednesdays 4:00pm - 6:00pm from September 10, 2024 - May 22, 2025
*OPC follows the OUSD calendar & will be closed on the same observed holidays*

Afterschool Jazz Level 1 is an ensemble that introduces students to the jazz idiom and focuses on the basic elements of Swing, Ensemble Performance Practice, Musicianship, and beginning Improvisation.
Requirements: Minimum one year of playing experience and ability to read music. No audition required. Instruments are available as needed.
Level 2:7th to 12th grade
Schedule: Tuesdays 3:45pm - 5:45pm from September 10, 2024 - May 22, 2025

Afterschool Jazz Level 2 is designed for advanced middle school through high school students with 2 + years of experience. This level introduces students to various jazz-based styles such as Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Swing, Jazz Fusion, and Hip-Hop. The curriculum includes the study of Jazz theory, harmony, and improvisation.
Requirements: 2+ years of experience. Knowledge of major & minor scales. Ability to improvise on the Blues. No audition is required. Instruments available as needed.

To check out, find the cart in the top right corner of the website. Click on the cart. You will see the Afterschool Jazz item.
Select Check out.
To complete registration, you will be asked to enter some additional information. Once complete, select Purchase. A confirmation email will be sent to the email you entered during the registration process.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are on a mobile phone, the cart will only be visible in landscape mode, so make sure you are in landscape mode to find the cart.
Once OPC receives your registration form, we will email you the enrollment & release forms to complete.
