Part-Time Facilities & Production Associate
Location: Oakland, CA (primarily on-site; occasional offsite work for programs, events, and supply runs; evenings/weekends as needed)
Reports to: Interim Director of Finance & Operations
Summary
The Part-Time Facilities & Production Manager is the point person for facilities, space, and technical production at the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. This role ensures classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and event venues are prepared, reset, and fully equipped for students, teaching artists, and community members. The Facilities & Production Manager not only supports day-to-day building operations but also has hands-on basic experience with sound systems, instruments, and lighting—ensuring classes, rehearsals, and performances run smoothly.
This is a highly active, hands-on position for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused. The right candidate will anticipate needs, solve problems before they escalate, and help OPC make the most of its limited but vibrant campus.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities & Space Management
Oversee the OPC campus: open/close the building, address and escalate facility issues, and maintain welcoming shared spaces with adequate supplies.
Prepare, reset, and optimize classrooms and rehearsal spaces for back-to-back classes and events, including occasional offsite program support.
Manage instruments, sound equipment, and supplies inventory, including organizing OPC’s 400+ sq. ft. storage space.
Equipment & Event Support
Set up and operate sound systems, instruments, and lighting for classes, rehearsals, events, and rentals.
Serve as on-site Production Lead for rentals, concerts, and community events, ensuring smooth and safe technical setups.
Safely lift, move, and configure equipment (up to 50 lbs. independently), and identify when additional support is needed.
Maintain equipment in safe and working order and coordinate with vendors for repair.
Coordinate instrument, equipment, and other program related donations including delivery, receiving, and recording into inventory.
Keep inventory up to date and accurate for all assets.
General Support & Flexibility
Assist with occasional errands and offsite tasks such as securing supplies, refilling water jugs, or flyer distribution.
Other tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
2–5+ years of experience in facilities, operations, stage management, or a similar hands-on role, ideally within a school, arts, or community environment.
Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Familiarity with musical instruments, sound equipment, and event setup.
Reliable, detail-oriented, and proactive communicator.
Preferred:
Experience in music schools, community arts, and education.
Knowledge of event production, lighting, and AV systems.
Spanish or other community language proficiency.
Work Conditions
Part-time position, based primarily on-site at OPC’s Oakland campus.
Evenings and weekends occasionally required for classes and events.
Frequent lifting, moving, and setup of instruments, equipment, and furniture (up to 50 lbs. independently).
