About Black Girls Play

Black Girls Play (BGP) is a holistic music education program that combines the serious study of instrumental & vocal music with entrepreneurship in the music industry, intergenerational mentorship, and leadership development for young Black girls and Women. The program is an expansion of the offerings of OPC’s Preparatory Studies in Music Program in which students receive group and private instruction, audition preparation for post-high school matriculation into college/university music programs, and preparation for professional careers in the music industry.

Black Girls Play provides an evolving range of opportunities and activities that allow the girls to engage in skill-building activities and relationship-building social development. BGP participants learn to envision their own successes as they experience breakthroughs to higher levels of critical and creative thinking, and increased proficiency in their musicianship. Our goal is to maintain a space where Black girls and women feel valued and supported in advancing their academic and career goals and pursuits in music or other creative industries. Description of Levels: Beginner & Beyond Beginner

Beginner: 0 to 6 months of experience.

Beyond Beginner: Minimum of 1 year of playing experience and ability to read music.

Instruments are provided as needed.

Schedule:

• Piano: Wednesdays 4:00pm - 5:00pm (Beginning); 5:00pm - 6:00pm (Beyond Beginning)

• Trumpet: Thursdays 5:40pm - 6:40pm

• Flute: Friday from 4:00pm - 5:00pm

• Saxophone: Friday from 5:00pm - 6:00pm

• Guitar: Fridays 4:00pm - 5:00pm (Beginning); 5:00pm - 6:00pm (Beyond Beginning)

Program timeline: September 10, 2024 - May 22, 2025

Registration fee: $25 (Non-refundable. Due at the time of registration) - Click here to pay.

If you are enrolling your child in multiple classes, you will only need to pay the registration fee once.

Tuition: $600 yearly (Suggested tuition price breaks down to $19.35 per week. Tuition will be due by the first week of class)
